Schoolhouse Rocks 5K, Fun Run & Festival, presented by Parkline

Join 1,500+ parents, kids, teachers, students, neighbors, runners and non-runners for the Schoolhouse Rocks 5k Run or 1 mile Fun Run in support of our schools. After the race, enjoy the Festival featuring bouncy houses, games, music, food trucks and tons of FUN!  

Run event is rain or shine.


Important notes about race registration:

  • To ensure the safety of all attendees, minors under the age of 11 must be accompanied on the race course by a registered adult in order to participate in the 1-mile Fun Run or 5K Race.   
  • Please do not register your furry, four-legged family members for the event.  They can participate for free!   Pet registration has caused unintentional issues with the awards in past years' events.
Early Registration Race Fees:  Wednesday, March 20 - Friday, April 5, 2024
  • 1 mile Fun Run + Festival:  $40 each
  • 5K Run + Festival:  $45 each
  • Festival only:  FREE
Regular Registration Race Fees:  Saturday, April 6 - Tuesday, May 14, 2024
  • 1 mile Fun Run + Festival:  $50 each
  • 5K Run + Festival:  $55 each
  • Festival only:  FREE

You can also register for the 1 mile Fun Run or 5K in-person at Packet Pick-Up on Friday, May 17 and Saturday, May 18 (see details below).

There is no day-of-event registration!  Please plan ahead.

Register either for the 5K or 1 mile Fun Run before the early registration deadline (April 5) and you will be entered into a special drawing to win delivery of your race t-shirt(s) and bib(s) to your home AND a reserved parking space in the Hillview Parking lot on race day!


Course description 5K & 1-Mile:
Our event follows an out-and-back course.  Race will start at Hillview Middle School winding through the neighborhood along Olive Street and Bay Laurel Drive.   The 1-mile route will turn around between Oakdell and Middle Ave.   The 5K route will turn around at the end of Arbor Rd.

Come enjoy the FREE post-race festival! Starts at 9:45 a.m. race day - at Hillview Middle School - where your family can enjoy bouncy houses, a climbing wall, outdoor games, food trucks, DJ and more!

Each year, we offer the opportunity for MPCSD families to support the event by becoming a Family Sponsor for a $500 donation to MPAEF. Family Sponsors help to underwrite the cost of the event and receive the following special benefits:

New for 2024: Greening the Run!
MPAEF is partnering with a local company, Sparkl Reusables, to provide reusable cups at the race water stops, which will be collected, washed, and then re-used. No more litter on our local streets!  Additionally, festival food trucks will provide compostable containers for food and drink. Attendees can help by disposing of waste in the correct containers at the event. Together, we will reduce the environmental footprint of the Schoolhouse Rocks 5K, Fun Run & Festival!

Packet Pick-Up Details:
  • Packet pick-up will be at Fleet Feet on 859 Santa Cruz Avenue on Friday, May 17 from 12:00 - 4:00 p.m. and Saturday, May 18 from 10:30 a.m. - 2:30 p.m.
  • While you are there, receive 10% off your Fleet Feet purchase.   A great way to stock-up on any last-minute running gear!
  • Schoolhouse Rocks Run t-shirt sizes are available on a first come, first served basis.   Come early to get the sizes you want!  
  • If you are a Family Sponsor - your race packets (bibs, t-shirts, etc.) will be delivered to your home on the Friday afternoon prior to the event.   No need to come to Fleet Feet.
Day of Event Timeline:
  • 7:30 - 8:20 AM:  Arrive at Hillview.  Limited bib/t-shirt pick-up will be available at the packet-pick-up table the morning of the race.
  • 8:30 AM:   Get Warmed Up!  Join the DJ and school mascots for a pre-race warm-up.
  • 8:50 AM:   Race Line-Up.  If you are running the 5K: please line-up behind the Start/Finish arch.  If you are running the Fun Run: please line-up behind all the 5K runners.   Note:  For 5K racers, your time does not start until the chip in your race bib crosses the Start pad.   Awards are based on chip time, not who crosses the finish line first.  So don’t worry about being at the front of the pack!  
  • 9:00 AM:  5K Run start                                          
  • 9:10 AM (est.):  Fun Run start
  • 9:45 AM:   Post-Race Festival Opens.   Don’t forget to stick around and enjoy the Festival after the race!   This year’s festival will have carnival games, bouncy houses, giveaways, a DJ and more!   Hungry?   Bring some cash for the yummy food trucks.  
  • 10:00 AM:   Awards Ceremony.  Cheer on our fastest 5K racers at the Awards Ceremony!   
Awards for 5K participants:
For those that participate in and finish the 5K, we will be awarding medals in these groups:
  • Top male & Top female finishers
  • 1st, 2nd & 3rd place male & female finishers for the following age brackets:
    • 6 and under
    • 7-8
    • 9-11
    • 12-14
    • 15-17
    • 18+
